Hovering on High: Obama Surveys the World

Charles Krauthammer :: Townhall.com Columnist
by Charles Krauthammer

WASHINGTON -- When President Obama returned from his first European trip, I observed that while over there he had been "acting the philosopher-king who hovers above the fray mediating" between America and the world. Now that Obama has returned from his "Muslim world" pilgrimage, even the left agrees. "Obama's standing above the country, above -- above the world. He's sort of God," Newsweek's Evan Thomas said to a concurring Chris Matthews, reflecting on Obama's lofty perception of himself as the great transcender.

Not that Obama considers himself divine. (He sees himself as merely messianic, or, at worst, apostolic.) But he does position himself as hovering above mere mortals, mere country, to gaze benignly upon the darkling plain beneath him where ignorant armies clash by night, blind to the common humanity that only he can see. Traveling the world, he brings the gospel of understanding and godly forbearance. We have all sinned against each other. We must now look beyond that and walk together to the sunny uplands of comity and understanding. He shall guide you. Thus:

(A) He told Iran that, on the one hand, America once helped overthrow an Iranian government, while on the other hand "Iran has played a role in acts of hostage-taking and violence against U.S. troops and civilians." (Played a role?!) We have both sinned; let us bury the past and begin anew.

(B) On religious tolerance, he gently referenced the Christians of Lebanon and Egypt, then lamented that the "divisions between Sunni and Shia have led to tragic violence" (note the use of the passive voice). He then criticized (in the active voice) Western religious intolerance for regulating the wearing of the hijab -- after citing America for making it difficult for Muslims to give to charity.

(C) Obama offered Muslims a careful admonition about women's rights, noting how denying women education impoverishes a country -- balanced, of course, with "meanwhile, the struggle for women's equality continues in many aspects of American life."

Well, yes. On the one hand, there certainly is some American university where the women's softball team has received insufficient Title IX funds -- while, on the other hand, Saudi women showing ankle are beaten in the street, Afghan school girls have acid thrown in their faces, and Iranian women are publicly stoned to death for adultery. (Gays, as well -- but then again we have Prop 8.) We all have our shortcomings, our national foibles. Who's to judge?

That's the problem with Obama's transcultural evenhandedness. It gives the veneer of professorial sophistication to the most simple-minded observation: Of course there are rights and wrongs in all human affairs. Our species is a fallen one. But that doesn't mean that these rights and wrongs are of equal weight.

History magazine reveals America's true history

Fast-growing Leben unveils nearly lost Christian stories

© 2009 WorldNetDaily

Decades of secularization in the United States have cost the nation the common knowledge of the influences and impact of Christianity across the years, but one magazine is waging a campaign to restore that information to the country.

For example, a well-debated topic is whether the Founding Fathers were Christians?

Revisionists who have been rewriting America's history schoolbooks say certainly not. But neither were they all committed believers. According to the powerful and eloquent presentation in a quarterly magazine of Christian history and biography called Leben, the truth is that there was a battle raging for the hearts and minds of the newborn Republic in 1776 that continues today.

For a limited time, you can sample a six-month subscription to Leben absolutely free.

Each issue is a virtual collector's item, lavishly illustrated, intelligently written and bringing to its readers stories of courage and faithfulness you simply won't find anywhere else.

"The stories already exist," Leben Editor Wayne Johnson told WND. "This is our actual history. It's just a matter of poring through centuries-old books and records and piecing the narratives together."

He says many of the stories have been lost because of a society that insists on secularizing its history.

"Some of them have been systematically buried for generations," he said. "In other cases, we simply have better tools today to uncover and piece together facts using modern technology and the Internet. For example, we routinely correspond with small museums and libraries in Europe, and around the world for that matter, who share our passion for uncovering these unique and often quite amazing facts, stories, old woodcuts, paintings, etc. all of which we tie together to bring our readers a 'you are there' experience."

Leben is what Johnson calls a "labor of love" of the students, faculty and friends of City Seminary in Sacramento, California.

Appeal promised in Obama eligibility lawsuit

Accuses Obama of fraudulently serving as senator

Philip Berg, the Democrat from Pennsylvania who has pursued three legal challenges to Barack Obama's eligibility under the Constitution to occupy the Oval Office, says he'll appeal a judge's ruling in a case that until now had been under court-ordered seal.

Berg said in an announcement on his website documenting his challenges that the case under seal now can be discussed after it was dismissed and he's decided to appeal.

The action cited the False Claims Act and accused Obama of defrauding the United States Treasury "by illegally being a U.S. senator from Illinois as Obama is an Illegal Alien, not a U.S. Citizen," the website said.

Berg filed the action against Obama and after months of delay Attorney General Eric Holder's staff confirmed its decision not to pursue an investigation.

The dismissal came from a federal judge in Washington this week.

"A False Claims Act [FCA] case is when a person has knowledge that another party has obtained money from the government based on a false claim," Berg's website explained. "In this instance, in order to be a United States senator, you must be a United States citizen for nine [9] years. Obama is not a United States citizen and therefore, usurped the office of U.S. senator for Illinois and obtained payment from the U.S. Department of the Treasury based on his false statements that he was a U.S. citizen and constitutionally eligible to serve the position of United States senator."

Berg continued: "What a miscarriage of justice! At a closed door hearing on June 9, 2009, because of the status of the 'sealed case,' sealed because of the nature of the case, that being a 'Qui Tam' or FCA [False Claims Action] case, the attorney general through his representatives refused to proceed with the prosecution of Obama for fraudulently serving as a U.S. senator from Illinois for 3 ½ years."

Where's the proof Barack Obama was born in the U.S. or that he fulfills the "natural-born American" clause in the Constitution? If you still want to see it, join more than 380,000 others and sign up now!

Berg said he presented "overwhelming evidence" Obama was ineligible to be senator, "and therefore, Obama fraudulently received a salary and benefits of nearly $1 million dollars."

He confirmed he had cited the apparent conflict of interest of having Obama's appointee, Holder, involved in the case, and requested a special prosecutor – but was turned down.

"I am not giving up and am continuing my legal fight to prove Obama is not constitutionally qualified/eligible to be president of the United States. I am proceeding for the 305 plus million people in 'our' U.S.A., for 'our' forefathers and for the 1.5 million men and women that have died defending our Constitution in the many wars over the years and the 1.5 million men and women who were injured in those wars," Berg said.

His Berg vs. Obama is pending before the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and his Hollister vs. Soetoro a/k/a Obama is pending before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.

U.S. Rep. Ron Paul,
R-Texas

A plan by U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, to audit the Federal Reserve today lacks only a handful of signatures on a list of co-sponsors to hold a majority in the U.S. House.

Officials with Paul's office have confirmed to WND there now are 213 cosponsors signed onto H.R. 1207, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009 that demands an audit of the organization.

Paul long has opposed the power held by the Federal Reserve and its ability to manipulate the nation's economy and over the years has launched multiple proposals to get rid of the quasi-governmental agency, without significant support.

While nearly 400,000 concerned citizens demand President Obama present his elusive "long-form" birth certificate, more than a dozen other documents remain unreleased or otherwise blocked from the public eye.

Numerous documents which have yet to be surrendered include the following.

Obama kindergarten records

The Maui News reported that Obama attended kindergarten at Noelani Elementary School on Oahu during the school year 1966-67. It released a photo of two teachers, Katherine Nakamoto and Aimee Yatsushiro, with five students. The teachers claim one of the children is Barack Obama.

According to the Hawaii Department of Education, students must submit a birth certificate to register. Parents may bring a passport or student visa if the child is from a foreign country.

So far, no records have been released by the school. Noelani Elementary School officials have not responded to WND's request for comment.

Radio giant clowns about president's similarities, differences with God

Rush Limbaugh

Nationwide attention about President Obama's lack of producing a long-form birth certificate proving his eligibility for office got a boost today when top-rated radio host Rush Limbaugh joked about the subject in comparing Obama to God.

Asking rhetorically what God has in common with Obama, Limbaugh said, "Neither has a birth certificate."

"How do they differ?" Limbaugh continued. "God does not think he's Obama. And there's another difference. Liberals love Obama."

Limbaugh repeated the punch lines several times throughout his show and noted, "another difference is that Obama gets better press. ... Another difference is that God only demands to be worshipped once a week."

Later, he sprinkled in other differences, including:

  • God asks for only 10 percent of your money
  • God gives you freedom to live your life as you choose
  • God's plan to save us is actually written down for you to read
Upon hearing the discussion, one listener in Miami phoned in to tell Limbaugh, "You're acting like you're God."

Where's the proof Barack Obama was born in the U.S. or that he fulfills the "natural-born American" clause in the Constitution? If you still want to see it, join more than 380,000 others and sign up now!

The host responded, "I am better than most people but I don't think I'm God. Obama does. He's got a messianic complex."

Limbaugh commented that left-leaning listeners "can't stand any comedy about Obama."

The comparison to God comes after recent comments by Newsweek editor Evan Thomas, who said on MSNBC's "Hardball" that Obama was "sort of God."

With the exception of extensive coverage by WND, the subject of Obama's eligibility for office based on his birth record has received little, if any, attention from large media outlets.
